Topic: Commitment To Your Spouse (3)
Dear Reader,
Calvary greetings to you in the name of Jesus Christ! Since the month began, I have discussed on commitment being the bedrock of a successful home. Last week, I did explain to you how you can be committed to your spouse by treating him/her as yourself. This week, I want to focus on Benefits of Commitment.
1. It provokes love
Love is one of the benefits of commitment. Love is the instrument that God has put in the hand of man to be committed to his marriage. A husband’s primary responsibility is that of loving his wife and commitment provokes love. Where there is commitment to God and to one’s spouse, love becomes automatic. Commitment is like a driving force, pushing the husband to love his wife. The Bible says: Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for It (Ephesians 5:25).
When I see a man who finds it difficult to love his wife, I know that the problem is essentially lack of commitment to God and to the marriage. When there is commitment, there will be no need to persuade a man to love his wife; it will come naturally.
For instance, my husband is highly committed to God and to the success of our home. Therefore, it is easy for him to ravish me with so much love, even without my asking for it. That is commitment!
Husbands, you need to hear this. There is no wife who hates to be loved. There is no woman that will not respond positively to love. Someone once said that submission is a response, because when you love your wife she responds by submitting. Therefore, tension and quarrelling in a home are indications of the absence of love.
2. It provokes submission
Just as commitment provokes love, it also triggers submission. Any woman who is truly committed to the success of her marriage will be submissive to her husband. When a woman is stubborn and naughty, it is a sign of lack of commitment to her home.
Many people wish and express their desire that their home be like ours, but as the saying goes, if wishes were horses beggars will ride. Nothing good happens by chance. If you do nothing, you get nothing. It is only what you make happen that happens. Commitment must be in place; else family success will be a mere dream.
Thank God for His grace, but we must be committed to playing our parts too. That is why, today, I can boldly declare that I am enjoying a good home! As you play your part also, God will give you a brighter testimony than ours! Whenever there is commitment in a marriage, there will be love and submission; that is, both parties working together for the success of their home.
Personally, I don’t find it stressful to submit to my husband; it did not just start now, but right from the days of little beginnings. I never had to be coerced into doing so. I have always found it a thing of great joy.
Single ladies, before you get into a marriage relationship with any man, ensure that you can submit to him without duress. If you find it difficult to submit to him during courtship, then don’t marry him! This is because you will not submit to him in marriage and that is signing in for trouble.
In case you are reading this article today and you are not born again, there is no way you can be committed because your relationship with God is the foundation for your commitment in marriage. To be born again, you should say this prayer in faith: Dear Lord Jesus Christ, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me my sins and cleanse me with Your Blood. I accept You as my Lord and personal Saviour. Make me a child of God today. Thank You for delivering me from sin and satan to serve the living God and thank You for accepting me into Your Kingdom.
Congratulations! If you prayed this simple prayer of faith with me, you are now born again and a child of God. He loves you and will never leave you. Read your Bible daily, obey God’s Word and seek Christian fellowship (John 14:21).
