Topic: Restoring A Bad Marriage (Part 2)
Dear Reader,
You are welcome to another wonderful time in God’s presence. I thank God for the privilege to bring God’s Word to you this week again on this column with Family Matters. My prayer for you today is that God’s purpose and plans for your wonderful family shall be established. Last week, I shared with you the foundation for a faulty marriage. This week, I want to teach the causes of a bad marriage, and as you learn from the word, your life shall never remain the same.
The following are some causes of bad marriage we will be examining today:
Lack of Effective Communication
Communication has been defined as the act of passing across news, information, feeling or whatever, to somebody else. Communication is very vital in marriage. You will not enjoy your marriage if you and your spouse don’t know how to communicate effectively. Learning to have effective communication in marriage, is one of the most important aspects of marriage that couples must work on. The basis of any fruitful and lasting relationship is effective communication. Communication is a major component that makes oneness possible.
The better we communicate, the closer we become. Talking and listening are both vital for your relationship to keep moving. Many marriages break down as a result of poor communication. It is not just communicating, but to communicate effectively is what makes a good marriage. Lack of effective communication can cause a bad marriage and can be the reason for so much tension in many homes. Communication is key to a good marriage and as be said to be the “mortar” that cement marital relationship.
Lack of Commitment to Your Spouse
Marriage is a lifetime commitment. It is a total commitment, an unreserved dedication of one’s self to his or her partner and the marriage relationship. Commitment is the backbone of a good and successful marriage. It is the adhesive that holds the marriage together. When commitment is lacking in a marriage, the chances of that marriage surviving is very slim. Husband, wife how committed are you to each other and family? If you must enjoy family success, then commitment is a must. It is important for you to know that what the spinal cord is to the body, is what commitment is to marriage; without it, the marriage is paralyzed. That shall not be your portion in Jesus’ name.
Lack of Understanding
To understand someone simply means to know that person’s character. It can also be defined as the power of clear thought or being able to tolerate other’s feelings and views. It also implies having knowledge of the meaning and importance of something or somebody.
Understanding is the major foundation that every couple must consciously lay, in order to establish a good foundation, which in turn results in the building of a good home. Without understanding, there is no relationship and without relationship, there is no togetherness and without togetherness, the house cannot stand. The Bible says: Through wisdom is a house built; and by understanding it is established: And by knowledge shall the chambers be filled with all precious and pleasant riches (Proverbs 24:3-4). If you want your relationship to be filled with pleasantness and riches, then understanding is a must!
Lack of Trust in Your Spouse
Trust is placing confidence in someone, to be honest with and faithful to you, and not abandon you. Trust is a part of our daily life. That is why if there is lack of trust in a marriage, that marriage cannot survive. It will result in a bad marriage. To build a good marriage, trust is a vital tool. Trust is a virtue built through experience and over a period of time. Trust is reciprocal. The more you express your trust to your spouse, the more he or she responds to you in trust.
The beginning of a good marriage is God. If you want to have a good marriage and want God to rest upon your marriage and home, you need to surrender to Christ. You surrender by confessing Jesus as your Saviour and Lord. If you are ready to be born again, please say this prayer of faith with me: Dear Lord Jesus, I come to You today as a sinner. I believe You died and rose on the third day for my sins. I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Make me a child of God today. Thank You for accepting me into Your Kingdom in Jesus name, Amen.
Congratulations! If you prayed this simple prayer of faith with me, you are now born again and a child of God. He loves you and will never leave you. Read your Bible daily, obey God’s Word and seek Christian fellowship (John 14:21). With this, you are guaranteed all-round rest and peace in Jesus’ Name!
