Matthew Knox undergoing second trial at Manchester United.
Manchester United have invited Scottish
club Livingston starlet Matthew Knox
for a second trial after he impressed
during his first stint last season. The
Reds are evaluating whether to sign the
young forward on a permanent basis by
giving him a chance to train with the
first-team during his weeklong stint.
The 16-year-old who was the club’s
youngest ever player to make a
professional debut last season is
hoping to impress Jose Mourinho and
the Red Devils’ coaching staff at their
Carrington training base and earn
himself a permanent deal.
Knox has been on the radar of a
number of clubs since making his debut
against St Mirren last December. Apart
from having a trial with United in
January, he has also spent time with
Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, Everton
and Scottish side Rangers. The Daily
Record understands that Livingston
have turned down a number of bids
from the latter during the summer.
The Livingston forward was expected to
join Wayne Rooney, Zlatan Ibrahimovic
and Paul Pogba among others for a
training session with the Daily Mail
reporting that the 20-time English
champions are plotting a move with
£150,000 ($198,000) said to be the fee
on offer.
“Matthew left on Sunday. That’s why he
didn’t play in the game on Saturday
against Stenhousemuir,” Livingston
manager David Hopkin said, as quoted
by the Manchester Evening News.
“He will be down there until Friday.
Man United asked him to go back down
again which is obviously great for him.
He’ll be training for the whole week and
he’s got a bounce game with the first
team today, which is terrific.
“It’s a great honour for him to be
training with the team and be invited
down again. He must have done
something to impress him last time.
He’s handled everything great here and
he’s a real talent. We’ll find out towards
the end of the week exactly what’s
happening, but it’s all positive for him,”
he added.
