GOP presidential nominee Donald
Trump holds a 2-point lead over his
Democratic rival Hillary Clinton among
likely voters, according to a CNN/ORC
poll released Tuesday.
Mr. Trump was at 45 percent and Mrs.
Clinton was at 43 percent among likely
voters, with Libertarian Party
presidential nominee Gary Johnson at 7
percent and Green Party nominee Jill
Stein at 2 percent, according to the poll.
Head-to-head, Mr. Trump had a 1-
point, 49 percent to 48 percent, lead
over Mrs. Clinton among likely voters.
Mrs. Clinton had held an 8-point lead
over Mr. Trump in a CNN/ORC survey
of registered voters taken right after the
Democratic National Convention in
July.
Among a broader pool of registered
voters in the new poll, Mrs. Clinton had
a 3-point, 44 percent to 41 percent, lead
over Mr. Trump, with Mr. Johnson at 9
percent and Ms. Stein at 3 percent.
Head-to-head, Mrs. Clinton led Mr.
Trump by 2 points, 48 percent to 46
percent.
Ninety percent of Republicans backed
Mr. Trump and 92 percent of Democrats
backed Mrs. Clinton, while Mr. Trump
held a 20-point, 49 percent to 29
percent, advantage over the former
secretary of state among independents.
By a 50 percent to 35 percent margin,
voters said Mr. Trump is more honest
and trustworthy, and they also gave
him the edge on who is the stronger
leader. Mrs. Clinton led on who has the
better temperament to serve effectively
as president and who is better able to
handle the responsibilities of
commander in chief.
A majority of voters said they trust Mr.
Trump on the economy and terrorism,
while Mrs. Clinton held the edge on
foreign policy and improving the lives of
racial and ethnic minorities. She also
narrowly held an advantage over Mr.
Trump on immigration, 49 percent to 47 percent.
